Lots 172 and 173 Station Road
The pre-sale tenant of Lot 172 was Mr. John Davidge. John was the youngest of 4 children born to George and Elizabeth (nee Strange). George was born in 1819 at Stalbridge and Elizabeth, born in 1818 at Belchalwell. They had married in 1839. George passed away in 1858 when John was just five years old, when the family were living at Wood Lane. Elizabeth passed away in 1899.
John, born in 1853, a platelayer on the railway, married Sarah Jane (nee Parsons), born in 1851, at Stalbridge, in 1879. They had five children. John passed away in 1923 and Sarah Jane in 1935.
Charlotte Duffett, pre-sale tenant of one of the cottages included in Lot173, born in Stalbridge in 1848, was the eldest of two daughters born to Elias, a wheelwright, and Matilda Duffett. Charlotte did not marry and lived in Guggleton Street, later Station Road, throughout her adult life. She passed away in 1922, aged 74.
Allan Benjafield, pre-sale tenant of the outbuildings included in Lot 173, born in 1850 at Grove Farm Stalbridge, was the third of seven children born to Eli and Emma Benjafield. Allan married Susan Glyde daughter of the grocer William Glyde, with a shop at the junction of Duck Lane, now Dorset Cycles, in 1876. Allan was an auctioneer and after his marriage to Susan they lived at Henstridge, where they had four daughters. Allan passed away in 1930, aged 80, and his wife Susan in 1932, ages 90.
Charles Meader purchased Lot 172 for £100.00d and H.W. Edney Lot 173 for 650.00d.
