Lot 202 Stalbridge High Street
Lot 202, now known as Wayside, was a hairdressing salon and tobacconist in 1918. The premises were let to a Mr. Walter Lake on an Annual Lady Day Tenancy. Hunting stables, coach house and a cobbled yard, were located at the rear of the premises. Prior to World War One, horses and polo ponies, belonging to Lord Stalbridge, were stabled here, with the vendor reserving the right to lease the stables following the sale of the freehold.
Lot 202 was withdrawn prior to the auction. The sitting tenant, Walter Lake, born in 1866 at Weymouth, married Martha (nee Hodges), born at Sherborne in 1863, in 1888. They are listed in the 1891 census as living in Stalbridge High Street, with Martha working as a dressmaker. They had a daughter, Dorothy, born at Stalbridge in 1895.
