Lot 166 Barrow Hill
Lot 166 consisted of a pair of cottages let to brothers Joseph and Charles West, a cottage let to Mr Henry Eavis and another cottage let to Mrs Willis.
Joseph, a carter a coal yard, born in 1845, married Elizabeth (nee Grimes) in 1871. They had a daughter, Elizabeth E, born in 1876. Joseph died in 1921 aged 76.
Charles, a farm labourer, born 1838 married Martha (nee Mitchell), born in 1839 at Henstridge, in 1860. They had four children Henry born 1862, William 1870, Walter 1873, Adeline Mary 1887. Charles died in 1920 aged 82.
Mr Henry Eavis was a blacksmith with a smithy at the rear of the post office. Henry born 1848 married Eliza (nee Moores), born 1850, in 1870. They had three children George born 1871, Albert 1872 and Walter 1882. George and Albert joined their father in the blacksmiths shop after leaving school.
Mrs Elizabeth Willis (nee Dawe) was born in 1850 at Factory Mill, now Factory Farm, at Lower Fifehead, near Marnhull. Her first marriage was to George Gulliver in 1870. They had two sons Charles and Ernest. George died in 1877 and Elizabeth remained a widow until the April of 1907 when she married James Willis, born in 1843. James passed away in July of the same year. Elizabeth passed away in 1922.
With a reserve price of £200.00d, for all four properties, the lot did not sell at the 1918 auction.
