Lot 164 Stalbridge High Street
The pre-sale tenant of Lot 164, a shop and dwelling house adjoining the Post Office, was George F Vincent. He was the son of George E Vincent, born in Sherborne in 1838, the eldest of five children, born to Thomas and Elizabeth Vincent. On leaving school, George E trained as a saddler and harness maker. By the time of the 1871 census, George E had set up his own business in Stalbridge High Street.
George E married his wife Amelia (nee Mullett), born in 1839 at Binegar, near Shepton Mallett, at Weymouth in 1871. They had three children, George F, born in Dec 1874, Clara, born in 1878 and Eveline, born in 1881. George (Snr) passed away in 1908 and Amelia in 1918.
As well as repairing and selling saddles, George F sold other leather goods. George married Lilian (nee Borer), born 1885, at Poole in 1911. They had two children William, born in 1912 and Marjorie born in 1916.
The freehold of Lot 164 was purchased in 1918, by E. Stanley Young, for a sum of 280.00d.
In 1939, George, and his wife Lilian, are recorded as living in retirement at Lenthay Road, Sherborne. George died in 1943
