of Waterloo Lane, Stalbridge.
Personal details:
Born on 17th June 1891, and baptised Ernest Victor Brown on 6th September, he was the son of James and Elizabeth Ann Brown of Waterloo Lane. He had six older brothers James, William John, Arthur Edward, Bertie, Harold Tom, and Edmund Charles, one older sister Mary Jane, three younger brothers Percy Walter, Allan and George, and two younger sisters Ada Florence and Elsie. He, his father and his brothers were all farm labourers. Ernest sailed to Portland, Maine in April 1912 on board the liner Ausonia. His ultimate destination was Victoria, Ontario where he continued to work on a farm until he enlisted.

Military details:
Ernest enlisted in the 120th City of Hamilton Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force in Hamilton Ontario on 7th February 1916. The Battalion embarked on SS “Empress of Britain” at Halifax Nova Scotia on 14th August, arriving in Liverpool on 23rd August. After a short time in Bramshott Camp near Liphook he was sent to France where he transferred to the 19th Battalion on 9th December near Ypres. He was killed by enemy shrapnel in the vicinity of the Cossack trench during operations in the Lens area.
